Use a model alias to switch models without changing your app configuration. An alias belongs to a branch of your agent, and its Type selects the model that Hebo calls. With an alias, your app sends its path as the model name. An alias path has the form <agent-slug>/<branch-slug>/<alias>. Copy it from the alias card in Models.

Model badges

When you select a Type, some models in the list show one of these badges:
  • Free Tier: The model works without provider credentials.
  • BYOK (bring your own key): The model works only with your own provider credentials. See Bring your own key.

Switch models

In the Hebo Console, open Models. On the alias card, select Edit, select the new model in Type, and select Save. The alias path stays the same. The next request to the alias uses the new model.

Add an alias

Add one alias for each model that you want to select in your app. In Models, select Add Model. Enter an Alias, for example fast, select the model in Type, and select Save. Copy the Alias path of the new alias, for example my-first-agent-x7k/main/fast, and add it to your app. For the steps, see Claude Desktop or Codex Desktop.

Bring your own key

Models marked BYOK require your own provider credentials. For Free Tier models, BYOK is optional. Use it to send requests through your own provider account. You save provider credentials in the Hebo Console, and Hebo uses them to call the provider. Your app still authenticates with your Hebo API key. To use BYOK, configure the provider and select it on the alias:
  1. In Providers, select Configure on the row of your provider. Enter the credentials, then select Set.
  2. In Models, select Edit on the alias card. Open Advanced options, select Bring Your Own Provider, select your provider, and select Save.
The provider list shows only the providers that you configured and that support the selected model. Provider credentials belong to your organization, so you can select them on aliases in all of its agents. If a request returns the error BYOK_REQUIRED, check that the provider has credentials in Providers and that the alias has the provider selected in Advanced options.
