Claude Desktop can send its requests to Hebo Gateway instead of Anthropic. In gateway mode, the app authenticates with your Hebo API key.
This setup uses your Hebo API key, not your Claude subscription. Requests through Hebo do not use your subscription allowance or change your plan.

Before you start

Configure Claude Desktop

  1. Open Claude Desktop and select Help > Troubleshooting > Enable Developer Mode.
  2. Select Developer > Configure Third-Party Inference….
  3. In the Connection section, set Inference provider to Gateway, then enter these values:
Use this base URL without /v1.
  4. In Model list, add an item and set Model ID to your alias path, for example my-first-agent-x7k/main/default.
  5. Select Apply Changes. Claude Desktop restarts. On the start screen, select Continue with Gateway.

Verify the connection

Send a test message in a new chat and confirm that you receive a response. In the Hebo Console, open the agent and branch used by your alias and check Traces for the request.

Switch models

To use a different model with the same alias, change the Type of the alias in the Hebo Console. Your Claude Desktop settings stay the same. See Models. To select from more than one model in Claude Desktop:
  1. In the Hebo Console, add one alias for each model. See Add an alias.
  2. In Model list, add each alias path as an item, then select Apply Changes.
  3. Select the model in the model picker.

Troubleshooting

  • Connection errors: Check that Gateway base URL is exactly https://gateway.hebo.ai and that Gateway auth scheme is Bearer.
  • BYOK_REQUIRED error: The model needs your own provider credentials. See Bring your own key.
