You can transcribe audio with the same OpenAI-compatible /audio/transcriptions API across providers. Common use cases include meeting notes, voice input, subtitles, and call analysis.
The Gateway detects the audio format from the file extension or the MIME type.

Base64 Input

You can also send the audio as base64 in a JSON body:
Bash
The format value can be flac, m4a, mp3, mp4, mpeg, mpga, ogg, pcm, wav, webm, or x-aac. Audio format support varies by model.

Options

  • language: the language of the audio (for example, en).
  • prompt: text that guides the transcript’s style or vocabulary.
  • temperature: a value from 0 to 1.
  • response_format: json (default) returns text and usage. verbose_json also returns language, duration, and word timestamps when available. Word timestamps appear in words, and segments is empty.
  • timestamp_granularities: set to ["word"] to request word timestamps. Requires response_format: "verbose_json". In multipart forms, send this field as timestamp_granularities[].
Support for prompt, temperature, and timestamps varies by model.

Limits

Request bodies can be up to 10 MB. Larger requests return a 413 error. Streaming is not supported: stream: true returns a 400 error.
